Strange Wordless Meeting Between Bhai Sahib and a Judge

Professor Thakur Singh jee who was a nephew of Bau Mal Singh jee and who did a lot of Sangat of Bhai Sahib Randhir Singh jee has written a very interesting account of a meeting between a Gursikh judge and Bhai Sahib jee. This story shows how much Bhagti Bhai Sahib jee had. A similar incident occurred with Bhai Jeevan Singh jee who himself narrated it to me, 15-16 years ago. I will write it at a later date.

Below is a humble attempt to do loose translation this Saakhi from Pr. Thakur Singh jee's book - Poorab Janam ke Milae Sanjogi.

In 1931, Sardar Bahadur Kartar Singh of village Jama Rai, who was my loving friend and who along with his whole family had taken Amrit from Jatha, got transferred to Ludhiana as a Senior Judge. He was a very devoted Sikh of Sache Patshah (True King Satguru jee). After completing his worldly duty, he used to spend all his time in Simran and Gurbani Paath.

One day, while doing his evening walk, he came to our house and said, "My heart is longing very much to do Darshan of Shriman Bhai Sahib Randhir Singh jee. He is a jewel of our Panth. I have heard and read a lot about him."

I replied, "he (Bhai Sahib) comes to my home many times and when he arrives here next time, I will inform you".

Few days later, Bhai Sahib visited our home and I sent a message to Sardar Kartar Singh. He completed his duty and that evening came to our home. I took him along with me to the room where Bhai Sahib was seated. Bhai Sahib stood up at our arrival. Bhai Kartar Singh folded his both hands, said Fateh and touched Bhai Sahib's knees out of respect and then sat on the couch there.

A lot of time passed but no one said anything. After some time, Sardar Kartar Singh started acting strange. He started looking up towards the ceiling and sometimes elsewhere. He was blinking his eyes again and again. This way about an hour passed away and Sardar Kartar Singh gestured me for permission to leave. I requested Bhai Sahib for permission to leave. Bhai Sahib stood up and we said Fateh joining our both hands and took leave. Sardar jee did not say anything and took leave without saying anything but Fateh.

Next year, Sardar Kartar Singh became Session Judge and got transferred to Jalandhar. I went to see him and as usual, the next day we got up, did Ishnaan and then got engaged in chanting Naam in our own rooms. He then started doing Nitnem and Siri Sukhmani Sahib. I got up and started doing Parkash of Siri Guru Granth Sahib jee. He soon came after his Nitnem and after doing Kirtan of one Shabad, we heard Hukamnama Sahib from Guru Sahib's Saroop.

He was very happy. He said, "today I am going to tell you such secret that normally should not be disclosed but since you are my loving friend and also love Bhai Sahib jee very much, I am going to tell you that secret. Last year, when I had come to have Darshan of Bhai Sahib Randhir Singh jee, at your home, you must have noticed that even after passing one hour there, Bhai Sahib and I did not speak a word to each other and then I took leave from Bhai Sahib. Actually what happened was that when my hands touched his knees, at once very strong Parkash of Jyot occurred within me and I got bewildered and dumbfounded. Since it was my first such spiritual experience, I could not understand what was happening. Even though I was realizing that by touching his body (knees) this switch of Jyot (divine light) had lighted up within me but I kept blinking my eyes while thinking if I was dreaming or if it was actually happening. I was wondering if my mind was working fine and I had not lost my mind. Sometimes I was attempting to see downwards and sometimes upwards. The whole time there, was spent in this condition of bewilderment and then I took leave and came out of there. When I was walking on the road, that Jyot was still lightened up within and Simran too was occurring at the same time. I was walking as if I was in a dream. When I reached Phavaarewala Chowk, near the courts, the switch turned off and I just stood there. I looked back and forward and then realized that I was okay and had not lost my consciousness. The meeting with Bhai Sahib seemed like a dream."

He paused for a moment and continued, "Shrimaan jee is a very pure and great personality and has lot of Kamaaee and blessing. You are very fortunate that you are doing his Sangat and getting so much love from him. He is one of those Gursikhs who are blessed by Guru Sahib and about whom it is written in Gurbani – ਕਉਨੁ ਕਹੈ ਤੁਮ ਤੇ ਕਛੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਤੁਮ ਸਮਰਥ ਅਥਾਹਿਓ ॥

We continued doing such love-based talk and then after doing Matha-tek to Guru Sahib, we went to our rooms. This was an example of miracle of Kamaaee of Bhai Sahib jee.
