GURU NANAK DEV JEE IN MUNAFIK DESH

While coming back from Jagannath Puri, Guru Nanak Dev jee Maharaj visited Munafik Desh i.e. the land where people did not believe in Vaheguru. They had no concept of Naam or Vaheguru. They did not believe in any creator. They were very materialistic people and indulged in pleasures of maaiya.

This kingdom was ruled by a Munafik (athiest) king who too did not believe in Vaheguru. When Siri Guru jee came to this land, he sat under a tree in the field of one of the residents of this land. Bhai Mardana jee was along with Siri Guru jee. Siri Guru jee started singing a shabad and soon after the owner of the field came to Siri Guru jee. He had good fortune because he had great karams. He had karams great enough to get darshan of Siri Guru jee.

Anyway, after Siri Guru jee finished doing kirtan, the impressed owner of the field did matha-tek (bowed) to Guru Sahib. Guru Sahib knew that he was one of the candidates of Gursikhi. Guru Sahib gave him updesh and after few days, of sat sangat he was ready to become a Sikh and became a Sikh by getting Amrit Naam from Guru Baba jee. He told Guru Sahib how the financial situation of this land was very bleak due to no rain for months. The farmers were waiting for rainfall to sow the seeds of new crop but there was no sign of rain.

The owner of the field where Guru Sahib was staying too worked as a farmer and asked Siri Guru jee for advice in sowing the seed for the crop. Guru Sahib casually told him to go ahead and sow the seed and not wait for rainfall. The farmer was puzzled when he heard this. He knew that seed could not sprout without water. Guru Sahib sensing his puzzled face, did bachan that he (Guru Baba jee) would pay for his expense of seed if it does not sprout.

After constant sangat of Guru Sahib for so many days, his mind had been totally purified. He did not question Guru Sahib anymore and somehow sowed the seed in the dry field. The earth was dry but he did not care. He still sowed the seed. Other farmers who did not believe in Guru Sahib made fun of this good Sikh farmer but the Sikh farmer stayed faithful to Guru Sahib’s bachan.

After a few days, to the dismay of other farmers, the seed did indeed sprout. They were baffled and at that same time discovered that Guru Baba jee was not an ordinary person. They all went flocking to Guru Sahib.

The size of sangat kept increasing everyday. The king heard about Guru Sahib and since he was feeling pressure of poverty in the land, he decided to seek blessings of Guru Sahib. He arrived at Guru Sahib’s place and he too started listening to Guru Sahib's kirtan and preaching. The king including thousands of residents of that land became Sikhs of Siri Guru jee as a result of every day sangat twice a day. Guru Sahib’s kirtan changed the stone hearts of people there and they got understanding of Vaheguru.

After few days of sangat, the king requested Guru Sahib to help the poverty-ridden population of that land. Guru Sahib smiled and asked the king to prepare Karaah Parshaad and do ardaas before Vaheguru with full faith. Everyone joined the kind in ardaas and soon after ardaas, there was heavy rainfall in that land. They all saw the power of Vaheguru and started leading their lives according to Gurmat. Sensing that the people there now would be able to keep Gurmat on their own, Siri Guru jee along with Rabaabi Bhai Mardana jee moved forward to the next land.

It is estimated by some historians that Guru Baba jee gave Amrit Naam to about 35 million people. In other words about 35 million people got dikhiya from Guru Sahib i.e. became Sikhs of Guru Sahib. Later on many communities lost control with subsequent Guru Sahibaan and their generations lost Sikhi.

Siri Guru Tegh Bahadur jee and before him Siri Guru Hargobind Sahib jee did travel far and wide to revive Sikhi. Siri Guru Tegh Bahadur jee did heavy parchaar in Bihar, Assam and Bengal. The whole of Assam including the ruler there adopted Gurmat i.e became Sikh.

Guru Hargobind Sahib jee travelled twice to central India and to Kashmir. During times of Siri Guru Hargobind Sahib jee sangat from Bangladesh was known in Sikhi. What happened to all those Sikhs? One quarter of Bihar was Sikh. What happened to them. I guess Khalsa jee got involved in saving their identity from Mughals and in this time, they lost contact with sangat out of Punjab. We should remember that out of 5 Pyaare, only 1 was from Punjab – Bhai Daiya Singh jee from Lahore. Rest were from other parts of India.

I have faith that all those places where Siri Guru Nanak Dev jee travelled will adopt Gurmat. Gurmat Khalsa Dharam will be the leading Dharam of this world.
