THE POLICE OFFICER

If you look at the police officer carefully, you will realize that he looks distinct from ordinary people. Even though he is a public servant, he is full of confidence and smartness; and, fearlessness and determination is reflected from everything he says. Big gangsters, dacoits, thieves and murderers avoid the police officer and are afraid of him. Good citizens are not afraid of the police officer but they have to obey what the police officer tells them to do.

The largest and busiest shopping centre in Calcutta is called the Chaurangi Road. The sight of this bazaar is worth seeing during the Christmas holidays. It is so busy and bubbly during these days. Viceroy of India stays in Calcutta during Christmas days and many kings and tycoons come to visit this bazaar during these days. On this Chaurangi Road, thousands of vehicles come from one side and go to the other side. In order to stop accidents occurring in this bazaar, one police officer stands in the middle of all major crossways of this bazaar.

This one police officer who stands in the crossway, can stop any car just by raising his hand. At the gesture of his hand, cars traveling at 30-35 miles per hour stop within seconds. Great kings, tycoons, senior officials, military generals travel in these cars but no one dares to disobey the police officer when he raises his hand.

The police officer raises his hands and at his will stops cars he wants to. Does he not know that he only earns about 20-25 rupees a month (in those days this is what the salary of police officer used to make) and he is daring to stop ones who make thousands of rupees a month? Yes he knows but the officer also knows that he is not alone and that if required he would have the whole police department at his back and at the back of the police department there are courts and entire machinery of the government. This is why the police officer acts totally fearlessly as he knows that he has the whole power of police and the government on his back. He does not consider himself alone and carries out his duties with full confidence.

Just as the police officer considers all the power of the police department and the government behind his back, same way the Khalsa of Guru Nanak Dev jee – Guru Gobind Singh jee knows that behind him is the alive, vibrant and all-powerful force of Vaheguru. Gursikh carries out his duties in this world without any fear, with full confidence and with full honesty. He knows that Vaheguru is always with him and that he is never alone. He also knows that Vaheguru and his Khalsa always win and can never lose. Vaheguru and Vaheguru's Khalsa attain victory in everything they do.

Because Vaheguru is the embodiment of victory, his Khalsa too is the embodiment of victory i.e. it always wins. Regarding the Khalsa or the servant of Vaheguru, Guru Granth Sahib jee’s baani says as follows:

Jaa kae bhagat Anand meh||
Jaa kae bhagat kao nahi khai||
Jaa kae bhagat ko naahi bhae||
Jaa kae bhagat ko sada jai||

Vaheguru’s bhagat always stays in bliss.
Vaheguru’s bhagat has no problems.
Vaheguru’s bhagat has no fear.
Vaheguru’s bhagat always attains victory.

Just as the police officer has confidence that while carrying out his duty, he can arrest big men for their wrongdoings and get them punished in the court of law, same way, Khalsa of Vaheguru has faith that in any of his righteous works, Vaheguru’s dargaah (court, darbaar) is behind him. Such Khalsa of Vaheguru, having faith in Vaheguru, stays calm, fearless and oblivious, in front of great and powerful persons of the world.

Jaa ka kahiya dargah chalai||
So kis kao nadar lai aavay talai||
(One who has reach up to the darbar of Vaheguru, whom does he fear in this world)

Paahe gahai jab tay tumray, tabb tay koyoo aank tarai nahi aaniyo||
(Since the time I have grabbed your feet of Vaheguru i.e. since I have come to your protection, I don’t care about anyone else).

Khalsa of Vaheguru needs to realize that Khalsa is the son (or daughter) of Vaheguru. Once he or she realizes this, then in both spiritual and worldly fields, Khalsa can never fail or lose.
