The Little Boy who made friends with a King

The Little Boy who made friends with a King

Once there was a little boy by the name of Kurban Singh who lived in a town with his mother. This town fell in a very big kingdom whose king was very pious and Dharmi. He treated people like his children and did whatever he could do to make their lives comfortable.

The king used to pass by the house of Kurban Singh regularly and Kurban Singh used to notice that people used to revere the king a lot. Kurban Singh would keep glancing at the king when he passed by his house and he used to notice that the king always looked at him and smiled lovingly.

Kurban Singh told his mother how the king smiled at him. At this the mother told Kurban Singh that he should start a conversation with the king next time he sees him.

"Can I ask for toys or money from the king ?", asked the little boy.

"You may ask for anything you want, because the king doesn't say no to anyone and he has a lot of wealth", replied the mother.

The boy got very excited hearing this and started thinking of what to ask from the king. He kept on thinking and thinking and came up with many ideas. He started waiting eagerly for the king to pass by their house, so that he put forward his demand.

Finally the day of king's visit came and as soon as the king came close to Kurban Singh's house, Kurban Singh ran towards to the king's chariot. He stood before the chariot and looked towards the king with question in his eyes. The king had the chariot stopped and asked the child, "what do you want my son"

"I want $10 to buy a bat and ball to play", said the little boy hesitantly.

The king pulled out $10 and gave them to Kurban Singh with is smile on his face. The boy was extremely excited and he ran straight to the shop and bought a bat and a ball. He showed the bat and ball to his mother and told her how nice the king was. The mother just smiled back.

As the time passed by, Kurban Singh continued asking for money and gifts from the king. As he grew older his demands became bigger and bigger. Kurban Singh was really surprised to see that the king never said no to him and without a second thought gave him what he wanted. Kurban Singh felt really proud to be friends with the king.

The mother asked Kurban Singh to always remember the king for what he had done for him and always praise him and never ask for such things that are bad for you. She told Kurban Singh that if he asked for too many chocolates, the king is going to politely turn your demand down because he does not want you to damage your teeth by eating too many chocolates.

Kurban Singh was very intelligent guy who understood things very well. Therefore, he never asked for things that might hurt him. For this reason the king never had to say no to him. Kurban Singh just loved the king and always thought of him. He noticed that more he thought about the king, more he felt close to the king. The king and the boy got closer and closer.

By now Kurban Singh became a young man and with the help of the king got married to a princess. The king gave Kurban Singh all the neccessities he needed to marry a princess. Kurban Singh and his princess Sabhrayee Kaur were leading a very happy life and whenever they needed anything they just asked for it from the king.

One day the mother called up Kurban Singh and Sabhrayee Kaur and had an important meeting with them. The mother said," Beta it is now time for you to stop asking for things from the king"

"But Mata jee if we don't ask for things from the king what will we do?"

"Now the time to tell you the reality has come. The king is in fact your father. I am only your caretaker. Whatever he owns belongs to you. You should ask him to come and stay with you. This way everything that belongs to him will come to you and you will not have to ask for any things any more."

"WHAT ! The king is my father ? O' I am so excited to hear this. but matajee, why would the king want to stay in this little house of ours ?"

"You don't worry about this. Next time you see your father, ask him to come and stay in your house. You know this by now that he cannot say no to anyone. So take advantage of this and invite him to stay with you"

Kurban Singh was really excited to hear this but could not believe that a king would come and stay at his little house. He started waiting patiently for the king to pass by his house. He would sit and remember his name again and again. He would sing kaseede (praises) of the king and sometimes he had tears in his eyes at the thought of having the king to stay in his house.

Finally the day the king passed arrived. The boy hesitantly asked the king to come and stay with him. To his AWE the king readily agreed.

The next day workers from the palace came and started renovating the house. They worked day and night and made the house really big and beautiful. It had two floors to it and the king was arranged to stay at the top floor. Finally the day of arrival of the king came. Kurban Singh was very very happy and did not know how to express his happiness. He was just bewitched and could not utter a word. He could not believe his luck.

Now it was really convenient for Kurban Singh. He never had to ask for anything and went to see his father at the top floor whenever he felt. He noticed that now he loved to sit with his mother all the time. He would listen to the words of his mother for hours and hours and never got tired. Whenever he felt like seeing his father he would go to the top floor and see his father there. Whenever he went to the top floor he did not feel like coming back. He wanted to stay there longer and longer. Top floor was really beautiful and he got mesmerized when got there.

The whole family lived happily ever after that.

Who is the little boy ?

Little boy is everyone who takes a human form and is born in this world

Who is the mother ?

The mother is Satguru who tells us about the character, habits and form of Vaheguru. Satguru tells us that Vaheguru never says no to his children who come to his Sharan. The more we listen to our Satguru, faster we will have parkash of Vaheguru in our heart. Listening to the words of Guru (Gurbani) we get a peace of mind and obeying these words of Guru we get to Vaheguru.

Who is the king ?

Vaheguru is the king. Vaheguru never says no to his children who come to his sharan.

First we ask Vaheguru jee for worldly boons. When we ask for something earnestly, our wishes are always granted. From countless yugs we have been asking and he has been giving. There comes a time when we ask for spiritual boons. The final boon is to ask for Vaheguru himself. Surprisingly, when we earnestly make this wish, it is granted.

Actually the new house that was built by the king for Kurban Singh is our body. We stay at the lower floor and have completely forgotten the upper floor (Dasam Duaar) where Vaheguru resides. The more we listen to Satguru jee, faster we will have access to the upper floor i.e. Dasam Duaar. Once we can get to the upper floor we will have everything including the king of kings-Vaheguru.

Please note that this story has been dramatized a lot. In fact Vaheguru does not have to come from outside to stay with us at our request as Kurban Singh had to request the king to live with him. Vaheguru is already staying with us. All we need is find him in here. How do we find him ? Raam Raam bol bol, khojte vadbhagi (By uttering the name of Vaheguru, one finds Vaheguru with great fortune).

The story was written by getting inspiration from Raghbir Singh Bir's book. So the idea in this story is not originally mine.
